    fun is where you find it. I do not dispute the way this guy chooses to have fun with his equipment. I think his choices are fine. I simply want everyone to consider how human hearing works before considering any buying decisions , because human hearing is a process of the brain, and that the brain has no self awareness of fault. human hearing did not evolve to accurately pinpoint anything beyond which way to run for safety, identifying if the sound was, in fact, real or not , was not an evolutionary advantage. there is a sonic reality, and then there is what the brain tells you it heard that becomes your personal sonic reality. Hearing is an entirely subjective function , if you think something will sound a certain way, your brain will make that your reality and move on , no questions asked. that is why hearing tests are not scored on the amount of sounds correctly identified, but rather within a range of identified sounds scientifically considered as a normal range of correct scores, because it is a known fact that the brain will give you the sonic reality you are trying to hear. So hearing tests , in order to be accurate, have to factor in the sounds that will be reported as heard that were never generated in the test. I think the most well know example of a brain process being influenced by prior perception, besides an optical illusion, is where professional wine experts are fooled with new wine in old bottles. the brain expects a result, confirms everything is as it should be, no cause for alarm, and moves on. same deal why ghosts are never seen in daylight, no assumptions of facts are needed to ascertain personal safety. Logic, of course , is the tool we use to dispute assumptions, but that is a different brain function, thought is separate from the senses to separate fact from illusion , audiophiles use a double blind test, where enough samples are collected to be statistically relevant , and results greater than the random fifty percent base line are considered as factual, a difference was identified. "Facts" are the reason double blind tests are not used to sell expensive connecting wires, only opinions, from satisfied customers, who are independent of one's own personal sonic reality. Furthermore , after an effect is identified as real , further blind testing is used to determine if it is only different, better or worse. of course, electrical testing can eliminate a lot of this casting around in the dark for answers. Only describe double blind testing because sometimes I get the impression that some think it is simply comparing sounds with your eyes closed. I am pleased with a continuous run of silver Litz wire from the cartridge pins to the phono inputs, so none of this swapping phono cables stuff could ever apply to my set up.

    Silly question but isn’t adding a digital stage just sampling your analog signal? Wouldn’t SACD be the answer at this point?

    • @MODAC
      @MODAC День тому

      Nope. Everyone needs the get over this analog to digital thing. Several high end companies like Linn, Technics, Daniel Hertz, McIntosh, etc are selling gear that converts analog to digital, and then back to analog. My albums don’t sound like CDs…they sound like fantastic analog recordings. Record collecting is one of my passions, why would I want to do something vastly less interesting and download SACD files?…which have zero history or intrinsic value? Thanks

    i have an LP12 and a Thorens TD150 mk1. I changed the springs on my Thorens, and can confirm its a job that requires patience and full focus. it is however very rewarding when its done. Arm wise i have an SME3009 mkII with a fluid damper trough and auto arm lifter fitted to LP12, and a Rega 350 fitted to the Thorens, also fitted with trough dampener. one for 45's and the other for 33Lps. they keep me very happy.

Industry titans scamper behind trade show doors as the unwelcomed troll hits the circuit - camera inyo face, spitting recording label fairy tales, albeit with a plethora of happless stale nonsense. If it mistracks evenly increase tracking force until it behaves itself. Tweak to perfection.

    Thanks David for this fantastic review and glad you really enjoying it. Just a small correction, the TS120SE you are using has the upgraded Shuguang KT88 tubes. Those tubes has less air than the stock PSVANE KT88 but it has better bass control. Both are excellent, just a question of taste. I personally like the Mullard the most because it gives the TS120SE a more 'tubey' sound but at the expense of losing bass as you said.

I already have a McIntosh MC2155 that has claimed a forever spot on my rack. In other words, at 80 lbs, if it breaks, I can no longer lift it. I recently bought a used Rogue Sphinx V2 with a tube front end and a Hypex Class D power section. 25 lbs, now we’re talking.

    great video thanks, when i replaced the springs on my Thorens TD150 mk 1 , i used 3 1cm circular spirit bubble levels , the reasoning for this was they are light and did not affect the platter with undue weight , thus avoiding putting a large weight on one side of platter and compromising the levelling . and i have to say i got great results. i also have an LP12 with valhalla ps board and an SME 3009 mk2 tonearm, my dream turntable from way back in the 70's when i first got into proper hifi .

      @@MODAC Explain why this makes no sense. Why would it matter where the digital conversion takes place. In the recording studio or at home using an analog to digital converter. Mobile Fidelity was sued for this exact issue. They were selling LPs as pure analog but on a tour of the factory a guest saw that the signal was being pressed to LP using digital tapes. I'm not one of these analog is better than digital people. I'm just saying that once converted to digital you are no longer listening to analog. It may sound great but it's not analog. Therefore it makes no sense to hang on to your LPs when you can stream them in digital format online via Tidal or whatever. Hope that clears it up for you

      @jissanhuq3792 8 днів тому

      @@robomaster4882the point is Fidelity and stability. Digital sources that are readily available do not perform as well to many of our ears as does vinyl. CDs to streaming may be convenient but it doesn’t have that extra level of separation if your hifi is good enough. Most of my vinyls are from a digital source as is most since early 80s. Its about listening not being some ocd purist. There are people who don’t EQ and listen to music with less impact because that’s what’s intended. If it doesn’t sound digital, compressed to me, i don’t care, my vinyls have beat their streaming and other counterparts to my ears. Id love the convenience but it hasn’t wowed me like a vinyl source regardless of interpolation

    One day I might build a pair of Danny's speakers. Surely anyone who has bought his speakers could review them, maybe they have I haven't looked. I know New Record Day has reviewed some of Danny's creations, as has Cheap Audio Man. CAM actually said he preferred the CSS, if I am not mistaken, but that it was a close comparison. Personally, I don't have time to spend with audio as much as I would like to. I have different set ups around my house that are good at different things. Nothing I own is the best at everything. Let me talk about the gear I have and I am sure I may get laughed at by the "high-end" community, but I don't really care because I am happy listening to the gear I have and it is very simple and fairly inexpensive. I think once you understand the character and personality of your gear, unless it is really bad, you don't keep "thirsting" to hear other stuff. Sure, I see speakers that I would like to try out - like Danny's speakers, the new SVS Evolution, some Emotiva speakers, etc but I really can't say I feel a need to buy it or have it, but one day I do want to splurge probably on a set of Danny's or CSS's build myself set-up. I own Sennheiser HD600. I play them directly from my phone using a subscription to Spotify and this gives me a detailed performance. I can tell how good or bad the recording is and the quality of the streaming site. I haven't tried Tidal or any other subscription because I use an app called Musis to rate my music and as far as I know it is only compatible with Spotify. The quality seems plenty good to me. But, sometimes the HD600 are too analytical and not lively or concerty enough. So then I can listen to my: JBL Studio 580, with matching center and Elac UB5 in the surround. This set up is in my bedroom. Definitely not optimized placement but I think I have done pretty well setting them up. I use a Denon X3500H receiver that I ran Audyssey about 150 times to get things the way I like them. I experimented with mic placement and speaker placement best I could. The sound on most material quite good. There is some box resonance noticeable on some music but other music feeds off the JBL concert vibe. I have often found myself rating music higher through this system than on my headphones. But I can hear the detail and the music more accurately through my Sennheiser, but the JBL has passion and emotion, and is powerful and bass focused, really grinding heavy guitar riffs. So then at work I have used several kinds of wireless earbuds that I have thoroughly enjoyed. I have used JBL 130NC, that I love but aren't good quality - I have had 3 sets go bad in one year. I also have AKG N400 which are good but have some weird characteristics such as inability to use one bud at a time, both have to be in your ear or they stop playing. Also, you must deactivate BT in order to keep them from playing - even putting them in the case will not disconnect the earbuds. Strange design choice by AKG but the sound is also very good and enjoyable. Both buds are bass-centric but really do not lack anywhere. I even have a set of Walker Razor headphones for mowing. These lack some bass but I think they work good for mowing, strangely enough. I have always been a stickler for sound but none of these I use do I feel I am really lacking good quality. I do realize, maybe there is something out there that could have the strengths all of them have but I find them all enjoyable enough to not be upset with any of it. I have other systems that I haven't listed because this comment is too long as it is, I just wanted to share how I feel about people needing more audio equipment or even all they have. Is it helping, really, by getting more? Or is it creating more issues by getting more and you aren't enjoying what you have? There may be better stuff, I am sure. But I do not wish to try "better" because I have been very pleased with all of my systems. If i hear better I may not be happy anymore. I wish I had more time to play music but I already spend too much time listening.
